Description

Sign-in and light breakfast from 8:30 - 9:00 am. Training will begin promptly at 9:00 am. Lunch will be provided.

Overview: Consider this a "greatest hits" of information and resources about adolescent brain development, substance use, and addiction. Numerous speakers will cover the topics of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and prescription drugs/heroin.

Intended Audience: Teachers and other school staff, community-based organization staff who provide school-based programs.

Draft Agenda:

  • Introduction to Adolescent Brain Development, Substance Use, and Addiction

  • Alcohol - Binge drinking, alcohol poisoning, alcopops, reducing access, etc.

  • Prescription Drug Abuse - updates on the national epidemic

  • E-Cigarettes/Vape Pens - what educators need to know

  • Marijuana - new legislation, adolescent use, health effects, and implications for prevention and intervention

  • Resource Sharing
